Static typing can be pretty neat, but there are better languages than Java that do it. Plus Python has so many other nice things to make up for it.

Oh sure, I still love python. It's just nice to discover new and novel things when you build other stuff. It's only Java cos of Android, but maybe in future I'll have a good reason to try something more interesting.

Yep always good to branch out and get some perspective on what else is out there

Relevant to this: seems possible to use #scala to build android apps too, which is on my "to-try" list. Woo! Might give it a go for the next project.

strict typing + inference in #swift has been really interesting to work with alongside #ruby and #javascript. Strengths on both sides :)

@kencheeto I see no strengths in javascript except for its ubiquity :p swift does look nice, though opinions seem divided.

Yeah, that's definitely its strength. Pretty big one, and completely unique :( Still, if you wanna get things done..

@josh Swift is opinionated and very much on the safe side, which can be annoying. I think with sufficient investment into XCode, it'll be a real pleasure to work with :)

Hey back off of javascript @josh. It can be nice once you've got the right libraries and frameworks in place. Maybe. Or maybe I'm in #frontend #denial
