With #curo people in three different timezones at the moment, we’ve been trying to record 10 minute weekly video updates for each other, to reduce the amount we are repeating ourselves in phone calls over and over. We’ve tried emails, reports and slack for this, but there is something time consuming for us to write everything out, and there is something lost when we can’t speak our enthusiasm or frustration about things verbally. Also, sort of like the idea that will we have video recordings of our progress to look back on one day.

Anyway, it’s been helpful, but it’s painful (and slow) to upload them somewhere useful, put to a password on it, and then share the links in slack (and these things then get lost fast).

Anyone know of any good (and easy) video journal/reporting system for teams? Feel like something good must exist out there. Maybe a new feature for #littlelogs, @josh & @belle? ;)

Hmm interesting. How come you don’t upload the videos directly into Slack?

We are trying that, but we are still having to upload smaller files and things are getting cut off etc… not everyone on the team is as technically savvy as others, which makes it difficult to troubleshoot. The problem is, we keep ending up talking almost as much about the technical problems of getting the videos up, as we do the content in the videos!

In an ideal world, an notification would come through saying “time to record your 10 minute update!” which would start the recording immediately, and then automatically post somewhere! I actually like the idea that you couldn’t edit or anything, as I want it to become second nature and not something we hum and haw about and waste time on. Just a brain dump of what’s going on right now for you.

Ah sure. Yeah, dealing with the logistics more than the actual content of the videos would be frustrating. It’s an interesting idea. Makes me wonder whether/how many other teams are doing something similar.

Huh. I can see how that’d work well for you and maybe other remote teams would dig it too, but I’d never think of that on my own because video, ew. Just write it all in text in your private Curo littlelogs group! 😝 aside from the fact that you’re after video specifically, this kind of situation is the reason we were going to build that. Keep everyone up to date on people’s progress and setbacks etc.
