#TestFlight

Finally got my latest build of #exist for #ios uploaded to #TestFlight yesterday after failing for four days. Had to use Application Loader instead of Xcode in the end, because Xcode just kept failing. #laterlog

Although I’m still annoyed by some of the UI changes to #itunesconnect (why can’t I see what version my testers last installed?!), I do like that once a beta build is approved by TestFlight reviewers it now goes straight out to my external testers without me doing anything. Very helpful since TestFlight reviewers tend to do their thing while I’m asleep!

Some final bug fixes in #exist for #ios today. Part of my update that adds #applehealth #sleep syncing was to make the initial sync cover the past 30 days instead of the past 14. I found a timeout issue in that process, thanks to some good user feedback, and sorted that out today.

Submitted a new build using the new #TestFlight setup. Thankfully it didn’t take too long to figure out where they’d moved all my cheese to, and some parts of the process are more simple now (e.g. seems like they’ve removed the specific “notes for review” section, which I never used anyway). Feeling good about getting sleep out to all our users very soon!

HUGE day of #exist for #ios today. I made a new settings screen to handle all the new #healthkit data I’ve been adding, made some changes to how I get HealthKit data to make it more generic, fixed some bugs, and added a bunch of new constants to replace hard-coded values.

I also sent a new build of the #location branch to #TestFlight for beta testers, and took up a big chunk of @josh’s day trying to figure out why I kept getting intermittent 412 errors from the Exist server. (Turned out to be an issue with the default cache policy of NSURLRequest.)

Sent an update of #exist for #ios to #TestFlight for review yesterday, with a bug fix and some improvements to #location tracking. Getting closer to releasing location!

After that I made a new branch and had a play with grabbing food data from #applehealth and sending it to Exist. It was simpler than I thought, but surprisingly hard to find an app to put the data into Apple Health correctly in the first place. #laterlog

Did a couple of critical bug fixes for #exist for #ios today. A recent merge with lots of conflicts led to me screwing something up, which gave users a pretty bad experience. Sent the new build to the App Store and requested expedited review.

Also had yesterday’s new #TestFlight build approved for testing, so I sent that off to beta testers.

Went to the Apple store yesterday to trade in a couple of old devices and upgrade my very old original iPad Mini to an iPad Air 2. Realised after unboxing the new iPad that it had a weird dark spot on one part of the screen, so this morning I trekked back to the store to swap it over.

Today I did my personal #monthlyreview for Feb 2016, cleared out my inbox, did a first draft for a one-off #client article due soon, and uploaded a new build of #exist for #ios to #TestFlight (waiting for it to get through review now).

Well, some panadol and sudafed are kicking in, and I’m feeling a bit better. I finally got around to recording some #piano for my next #FieldTrip article. It’s going to cover my experience using an online tool/app that claims to teach you piano. I needed a “before” recording, because I’m not starting completely from scratch. I made quite a few mistakes, but that’s probably helpful for the listener to get an idea of how much practice I need!

Also uploaded the #location branch of #exist for #ios to #TestFlight for beta review.

Outlined my two #client articles for the week. Good to have in-depth outlines, as it makes the drafting process much easier. #content

Also made a few small changes to the #location branch of #exist for #ios in preparation for a new #TestFlight build. Needs a bit more testing on my phone to make sure it’s solid, but maybe tonight or tomorrow I’ll send it out.

And this morning I did a couple of #exist #support emails.

Found a possible reason for the #bug I’ve been tracking down in #exist for #ios today. Still a frustrating bug, but at least I have a better idea of what might be causing it so hopefully I can figure out a fix soon.

Also cancelled our #HockeyApp subscription, since I’m sticking with #TestFlight despite a multi-day review process for every beta build. The wait is worth not having the hassle of dealing with provisioning profiles and all that nonsense anymore.

Also did a couple of #content drafts this morning, so things are going well today.

Sent out a new build of #exist for #ios to beta testers today. So far I’m not enamoured with #TestFlight and the slow review process. Had to wait a whole day to get my beta build reviewed, then it didn’t automatically go to testers, so even though it was ready overnight, I had to manually send it out this morning.

Still better than dealing with provisioning profile issues in #HockeyApp, but I’m not sure how much better.

Also started testing the beta version of #exist for #ios in #TestFlight today, since I’ve had lots of trouble provisioning devices in #HockeyApp. So far it seems like a much smoother process, though I have to wait for the app to be reviewed so it takes longer to get new builds to testers.

Also did some work on my first #FieldTrip article and my email course, and sent out my weekly #newsletter. Cutting it a bit fine with the course—just 3 days left to get at least a first draft of the whole thing done. #content

Back to the doctor again today. I believed her yesterday that I would start sleeping better as the drugs wore off, but last night was a terrible sleep and I felt really exhausted today so I went back and got some sleeping pills. Fingers crossed they help, because @josh has put up with my grouchiness for too long.

Workwise, I finally got #exist for #ios past @josh’s testing fortress and uploaded a new version to #HockeyApp for testers. Still having trouble getting new devices provisioned properly in #Xcode so I’m trying out #TestFlight as an alternative to #HockeyApp. Slower process because beta builds have to be reviewed by Apple, but might be worth it if I don’t have to deal with device provisioning anymore.

Also worked on a new post for the #exist #blog and got the first draft done. And had a couple of emails about potential #freelance work leads, but doubtful either will come to fruition.
